Ethiopia is a fantastic place for business expansion, especially if you are considering hiring international workers. A major chunk of the population of this country is highly skilled in the domains of agriculture and fishery.

In addition, the government of Ethiopia has introduced several plans to improve the quality of its skilled development system further. The SKILL-UP Ethiopia project is a notable example.

But, when hiring in this country, you also need to be aware of the leave policy in Ethiopia. The Labor Proclamation No. 1156/2019 is the primary law that regulates the employee-employer relationship, including the leave entitlements of an Ethiopian employee.

Let’s understand this better.

Earned Leave in Ethiopia

  • An employee in Ethiopia is entitled to annual leave after completion of one year of service.
  • The total duration of this paid earned leave is 16 working days for the first year of service.
  • For every additional two years of service, 16 days + one working day of annual paid leave is granted.

Now, let’s look at the maternity leave duration in Ethiopia.
